Wie von vielen vorausgesehen, ist ein vollständiges Video der Exekution von Saddam Hussein im Internet aufgetaucht. Das Video zeigt in schlechter Qualität nicht nur die Vorbereitungen zur Hinrichtung, sondern auch wie sich die Falltüre öffnet und der Körper Husseins in die Tiefe sackt. Die Aufnahmen sollen angeblich von der Kamera eines Handys stammen.

Das Video ist bei Youtube und Google Video aufgetaucht (Boingboing hat die Links). Bei Youtube heisst es als Warnung lapidar: «This video may contain content that is inappropriate for some users, as flagged by YouTube’s user community. By clicking ‚Confirm‘, you are agreeing that all videos flagged by the YouTube community will be viewable by this account.»

BBC hat auch dieses Video ausgestrahlt, aber nur bis zum Zeitpunkt, bevor die Falltüre sich öffnet. Die Haltung der BBC erläutert Kevin Bakhurst im The Editors Weblog: «There were several conversations between the senior figures in BBC News about what we would probably show if the execution was televised – which seemed likely. One decision was that we wouldn’t show the moment of execution itself – even if it were made available (which it wasn’t).»
