Dan Gilllmor, der Vordenker des «citizen-journalism», startet mit seinem ersten «Graswurzel-Projekt»:
«(...) At Bayosphere, we're going to create a community fueled by that notion. We will reflect - and reflect on - the news, needs and ideas of the San Francisco Bay Area and especially the technology sphere that is the prime economic driver of the area.»

Im Moment sind erst die Konturen des Projekts zu erkennen. Bayosphere scheint eine Mischung aus Weblog und Community zu werden. Dan Gillmor spricht bezüglich der neuen Website noch von «pre-launch territory». Fest stehen die lokale Ausrichtung (San Francisco Bay Area) und der partizipative Charakter («of, by and for the Bay Area.») der Website. Gillmor spricht vom ersten Projekt seines Unternehmens Grassroots Media Inc. Offenbar sollen weitere Projekte folgen.
